Juniper Berries (Juniperus communis) Juniper is a shrub native to Europe, Asia, and parts of North America that has been used for centuries for its therapeutic properties. The taste of juniper berries is the main flavour attributed to gin. Juniper berries contains volatile oils, sugar, resin, juniperin, proteins, flavonoids, and vitamin C. It also contains a variety of minerals such as sulfur, copper, and cobalt.

It has traditionally been used as a diuretic and treatment of respiratory problems.

Suggested use:

Juniper is best prepared as an infusion (1-3 tbsp. of berries to a pint of hot water) or 10 to 30 drops of a tinctural preparation. The berries can also be eaten raw. Do not consume large amounts over a long period of time.
